The recently announced Splendour In The City event has been cancelled amid the COVID-19 lockdown and restrictions.

Organisers have released a statement this afternoon.

"With Greater Sydney currently in lockdown until 9 July and COVID outbreaks now evolving in other States, it has become impossible to progress with plans to move artists and staff around the country, and also to build the event in Sydney," read the statement.

"Organisers also acknowledge the health and safety of staff, volunteers and ticketholders is the foremost consideration in line with the health advice from authorities."

Dubbed the new nine-day long event from the organisers was to include performances from over 20 artists, a comedy club, dining experiences and more at Sydney's Overseas Passenger Terminal from Saturday 10 July.

Artists on the line-up included Spacey Jane, Tash Sultana, Ocean Alley, Ziggy Ramo, Illy, Dune Rats, Masked Wolf, Running Touch, Vera Blue, Triple One, Violent Soho and more.

“This is a heartbreaking situation for all of the crew, suppliers and artists that were working hard to deliver this event for Sydney," said Jessica Ducrou, co-CEO Secret Sounds.

"Splendour In The City was set to provide much needed income for our live music industry which has been devastated since March 2020. We want to thank all of the music lovers out there who purchased tickets. Your ongoing support is very much appreciated.”

Refunds will begin being issued from tomorrow morning.
