Music venues and industry have united for a new campaign to help secure the future of live music in Victoria.
Dubbed No QR, No Entry, the campaign has been launched by Save Our Scene today and is a "proactive measure to address the concerns of the Department of Health" where "music venues across Victoria are confirming their COVIDSafe compliance on a registry hosted by Music Victoria".
The campaign sees Music Victoria and Save Our Scene work together to ensure that venues have a 100% QR code check-in rate to "combat seemingly arbitrary disparities in restrictions between indoor non-seated venues (which make up the majority of music venues) and other industries or social settings" to enable faster contact tracing in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak.
The news comes just days after the Victorian State Government announced changes in capacity for small-to-medium sized venues saying "From 28 May, these venues can have up to 200 people per space (such as a dining room or band room) without any density limit, provided COVID marshals are on site ensuring all patrons are checking in to each space".

"We desperately need to keep pushing up the capacities of our music venues," said Music Victoria CEO Simone Schinkel. "Friday’s announcement has alleviated the pressure on about half of our venue members, but there are still many who remain severely impacted by the density quotient of 1 person per 2 square metres."
"It’s in everyone’s best interest to have good contact tracing – especially with the delay in vaccine rollout – but for music venues, it’s our chance to prove that we are absolutely serious about working with the health department," added 170 Russell venue booker Ben Thompson.
"We know that QR code compliance is a big piece of the puzzle," added Simone Ubaldi, The Croxton Bandroom venue booker and manager for Amyl & The Sniffers.
Venues that have already signed up for the program include The Forum, The Espy, Corner Hotel, The Tote, Northcote Social Club, 170 Russell, Colour, Max Watt's, The Croxton Bandroom, John Curtin Hotel, Brunswick Ballroom and more.
