After over five months on top, Tones & I's record-breaking run on the ARIA Singles chart has finally come to an end.

It took 21 weeks for the Byron Bay-based artist's global hit song, Dance Monkey, to be dethroned and it came by Mariah Carey's 1994 holiday classic, All I Want For Christmas Is You

As is expected in the last week of chart results for the year, a string of Christmas tracks flooded the top end of the Singles chart including Wham!'s Last Christmas (#3), Michael Bublé's It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas (#4) and Holly Jolly Christmas (#19), Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas? (#11), John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War Is Over) (#13), Andy Williams' It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year (#16), Ariana Grande's Santa Tell Me (#17).

The Dance Monkey reign began to really take shape when it reached 11 weeks at #1, gifting Tones & I the record for most weeks at top spot by a female solo act

Tones then re-wrote ARIA chart history last month when the single reached 16 weeks, beating Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You to clinch the record for the longest streak on the chart in its entire history.

"Thank you so much Australia for the love and support around my career and single Dance Monkey,” Tones & I told The Music at the time.

“It’s been a crazy ride watching what this song has done, but now to break the Aussie record is just a huge achievement. An Aussie now holds the ARIA chart record – thanks!”

Earlier this month, Dance Monkey also took the record of the longest running #1 song from an Australian artist on the UK charts from Olivia Newton-John.

Over on the ARIA Albums chart this week, it's also all about Christmas as Bublé's Christmas album has returned to #1 after missing out on top spot last year.

The Canadian artist's 2011 record had returned to #1 every year since its release (an achievement no other record has achieved as many times in the ARIA era, 1983-present), however in 2018 it didn't go further than #3.
