Can you believe it? 2020 is literally days away at this point (*internally screams*). If you, like us, feel like this year has been approximately five minutes long then you'll probably feel the need to start planning throughly for 2020 already.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra are taking on some of the biggest and most-loved film scores throughout the year; here are the ones we're already heating up the popcorn and chilling the choc-tops for.

2001: A Space Odyssey

Few films have had the impact that 2001: A Space Odyssey has. The 1968 Stanley Kubrick classic film changed the way people looked at the universe and the film's score was a huge part in doing so. Originally it was American composer Alex North that was due to create the film's score but it was part way through production that saw Kubrick opt for classics from Richard Strauss, György Ligeti, Johann Strauss and more instead.

A Live Presentation of 2001: A Space Odyssey is set to takeover Melbourne's Plenary in late January with conductor Benjamin Northey leading the MSO and MSO Chorus through the iconic film score. Find out more about it here.

Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince In Concert

We're sure you can instantly think of that magical Harry Potter theme song - so know, just think how spectacular that would be played by a live orchestra?! The MSO are rolling out one of the franchise's adored films, Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince, which will see the orchestra play alongside the sixth instalment.

Big time HP fans should even more excited too with a stack of experts coming along beforehand to discuss Nicholas Hooper's score before it's played. Find out more about it here.

Skyfall

Start practicing your best "Bond, James Bond" because Skyfall is hitting the MSO. The 2012 film sees Daniel Craig's Bond take on cyberterrorist and former MI6 agent Silva (Javier Bardem) while he's rejoined by some fan favourite characters (lookin' at you Dame Judi Dench!). Nicholas Buc leads the orchestra alongside the Sam Mendes directed film. Find out more about it here.

Music From The Studio Ghibli Films Of Hayao Miyazaki

We love us some Studio Ghibli films. From Princess Mononoke to Howl’s Moving Castle and My Neighbor Totoro and the game-changing, Oscar-winning Spirited Away, there's so much to be adored from Studio Ghibli.

Composer-conductor Joe Hisaishi is set to return to Melbourne following on from four sold-out shows last year. You'll want to get in quick for this one. Find out more about it here
