Brisbane artist Jack Bratt has been awarded the prestigious Grant McLennan Fellowship.
The singer-songwriter and producer picked up the $25,000 prize at a ceremony tonight in Brisbane, which will allow him the opportunity to travel to New York for up to six months, channelling a different culture for inspiration and career development.
"I'm overwhelmed to be the recipient of the Grant McLennan Fellowship this year," Bratt told The Music.
"This award is extremely close to my heart, being named after Grant McLennan who is such an icon of Queensland music.
"After applying for the grant I went to the Queensland Library to look through the legacy items of past winners, and really got a sense of their experience. It was incredibly inspiring.
"I plan to travel to New York next year to soak up the culture and musical legacy of my heroes."
A member of Golden Age Of Ballooning, Bratt recently co-produced the debut album from The Butterfly Effect’s Clint Boge and recorded guitars for Greg Chipello’s Star, which featured on SBS series Robbie Hood.
“Congratulations to Jack Bratt and other fellow shortlisted finalists Harriette Pilbeam (Hatchie), Georgia Potter (Moreton) and Leanne Tennant,” QMusic CEO Angela Samut said.
“This Fellowship is career-changing and will allow Jack to develop his artistic skills whilst widening his global networks. Jack has his sights on writing and releasing music under his own self-titled project in the near future and has plans to dedicate his time in New York to this. We wish him all the best in his international endeavours.”
Previous recipients include Danny Harley (The Kite String Tangle), Jeremy Neale, Hannah Macklin (MKO Sun), John Busby and Chris Dale (Halfway) and more.
