After years of speculation and wishful thinking, it looks like a sequel to cult classic Hocus Pocus is finally on the way.
According to Collider, Disney+, (Disney's forthcoming streaming service to launch next month) has commenced development on the follow-up to the 1993 film, with hopes that lead stars - Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy - will reprise their roles as the Sanderson sisters.
Jen D’Angelo, writer and co-producer for shows including Workaholics and Happy Together, will pen the script, though it is currently not known if Hocus Pocus director Kenny Ortega will return for the sequel.
Midler, Parker and Najimy have all expressed interest in a sequel for some time, while a TV series based on the film was pitched a few years back though it did not eventuate.
Though Hocus Pocus was not a hit at the box office following its release (raking in just $US39.5 million), the film has since achieved cult status and is a fan-favourite come Halloween season.
