Live music lovers and performers under 18 and frequent gig-goers will benefit from City of Sydney’s latest round of community funding, with plans unveiled to support live gigs and pop-up events in the coming months.
MusicNSW has received a $25,000 grant that will assist in putting on all ages live events under the banner New & The Now, with a series of shows set to take place at 107 Projects in Redfern.
“It’s important that young people get access to see and play live music in a professional setting,” Music NSW Executive Producer Laura Murdoch said.
“Currently it’s really hard for people under the age of 18 to go and see live music as most shows are held in over 18s venues.
“This grant means we can do just that and support our youth committee to run, promote and program shows, giving young people in NSW a foot in the music industry door sooner rather than later.”
Monthly live music sessions across various venues in Surry Hills will also take place thanks to the funding, alongside a pop-up jazz bar in Green Square with live music, a series of free orchestral performances by Sydney Youth Orchestra at various locations and more.
78 projects took a cut of $1.4 million in cash and in-kind support in this latest round, with applications closing for the 2019-2020 grants programs on July 22.
