Phil Tripp has today announced his retirement from his role with South By Southwest.
Tripp has represented South By Southwest Festivals & Conferences in AustralAsia & Hawaii for the past 17 years and was the conduit for everything to do with Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii at the event.
Prior to his role with SXSW, Tripp ran IMMEDIA! which published the AustralAsian Music Industry Directory (AMID) and produced the biennial AustralAsian Music Business Conference. AMID has been published by The Music since 2010.
In his time with SXSW, Tripp has been responsible for helping hundreds of Australian artists get ready for the world-renowned event.
"Australia has gone from five bands in 2002, playing one showcase each, to 40 bands this year, many of whom played ten shows each," shared Tripp in an interview with The Music in 2017. "John Watson and Wolfmother is a fabulous example, and certainly Phil Stevens and the trajectory of John Butler Trio.
"Sometimes though [you think], 'who the hell is that? Courtney Barnett, who the hell is she?' Then all of a sudden she's the star of the show."
Tripp is currently working on a memoir dubbed What A Long Strange Tripp It's Been.
