UPDATE - Friday 5 July 9am
The SXSW Aussie meet and greets have been cancelled.
--
12 key Australian industry figures will appear at upcoming meet and greet sessions across the country ahead of SXSW 2020.
The speakers will share their knowledge of the annual event at sessions in Melbourne (15 July at The Gem), Sydney (16 July at the Beresford) and Brisbane (17 July at Fortitude Music Hall), having attended SXSW over 50 times between them.
Confirmed speakers include Wonderlick co-director Gregg Donovan, Unicorn Group CEO Ron Anderson, Monkeys Agency co-founder and CCO Justin Drape and Griffith film school lecturer, Sue Swimburne.
“It may seem early to launch a 2020 event now, but there’s a rush from canny bands, labels and managers to apply in the first month while SXSW reviewers and auditioners are fresh and have time to give attention to submissions as opposed to the deluge of latecomers submitting close to deadline late September when their ears are crisped and tired,” SXSW Regional Development Manager Australasia, Phil Tripp, said.
"Same with the aspirant speakers who race to get their props in early before the July 20 deadline in the hopes of scoring a complimentary all-access badge if their topic is greenlit. This series of seminars will address how to best submit.”
