Netflix is looking to increase its Australian presence, with reports surfacing that the streaming giant is setting up a Sydney office.

According to The Age, Netflix is hiring local staff and establishing an on-the-ground presence to maintain its leading position in the country with Disney+ and others set to launch in Australia soon.

The news has led to speculation around the potential of more Australian content from the streaming service too, with former Twentieth Century Fox head of publicity Sarah Haines reportedly hired to oversee Netflix's Australia and New Zealand publicity for originals.

It would be the first time since Netflix launched in Australia in 2015 that it’s had a formal office and permanent local staff, with the company expected to operate out of co-working space WeWork, which has offices in the city, Pyrmont, Barangaroo and North Sydney.

Back in December, Netflix released its first Australian original series, Tidelands.
