The 15th annual Sydney Comedy Festival has wrapped up its 2019 event by announcing the recipients of the three festival awards.

The Director's Choice award went to comedy duo Demi Lardner and Tom Walker for their show, We Musn't. The Music gave the show four and a half stars out of five and wrote, "The duo work hard to subvert your expectations, to surprise and engage; they’re brilliant, inventive and brave. It’s a tremendous show from two bold, exciting and brilliant comedians."

Best Of The Fest was awarded to Cassie Workman for her work Giantess. Workman was nominated earlier in the year for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Award for most outstanding show. Our Arts Editor caught Giantess describing it as a work of clever and inventive anti-comedy, pairing biting commentary and insight into Workman’s lived experience as a trans woman with the illustrated fable of a little girl, kidnapped by a giant. Workman featured in the April edition of The Music, writing a guest editorial about the two worlds of trans performers. Read the piece below.

Best Newcomer was awarded to Chris Ryan, who presented her first solo show Bogus.

This year the festival saw an estimated 120,000 punters attend over 200 shows across four weeks. It wrapped up on 19 May.
