Australia Council will fund nearly 200 projects as part of its latest grants round, with international touring support for Middle Kids, Cable Ties, The Chats and more confirmed as part of the $5.8 million spend.
Middle Kids were awarded $34,560 to undertake a 28-date of the USA in support of their latest EP, while Cable Ties ($25,825) and Body Type ($17,730) use their respective grants to get to the UK and beyond for The Great Escape and other headline shows, and Jeffe ($11,589), Willaris K ($19,281) and more also score touring grants.
Hip hop receives some serious love this round as well, with L-FRESH The LION awarded $41,600 to produce and market music videos and other content around his new album, South West, as Sydney rapper Tasman Keith takes out $21,262 to record his debut album.
Dyson, Stringer & Cloher ($34,000) will record their highly anticipated debut album, Adelaide jazz bassist Ross McHenry ($30,440) will fly to New York and record, while rock outfit Liars and Bombay Royale’s Parvyn Singh ($27,512) are also among those who received album funding.
“We continue to receive a high volume of high-quality applications across all areas of arts practice,” Australia Council’s Frank Panucci said.
“Although we are unable to support all applications, the opportunity for further investment in Australia’s creative potential is strongly demonstrated, in addition to the 192 projects supported in this round, a further 203 projects totalling $6.9 million were assessed by peers as being of high merit and deserving support.”
59% of funding this round was awarded to female-identifying artists, while Australian Council also reported an increase in First Nations-led projects being funded.
Applications for the next round of grants close on June 4. Head to the Australia Council website for more details and a full list of recipients.
