Popular Sydney live music space Freda's has boosted confidence for the city's nightlife with the announcement that it has been granted extended opening hours.

Just two years since its last expansion, the Chippendale venue will now trade until 4am on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as 2am for every other day of the week, effective immediately.

“We have seen Sydney’s nightlife go through a sad and painful decline over the last six years. However, this is an important turning point in Sydney reaching its immense potential as a late night city," Freda's owner David Abram said.

"We believe that safe, diverse, intelligent, and cultured spaces for like-minded people to connect and create are an essential part of a city’s heartbeat.

"We are grateful that both City of Sydney, and [Liquor & Gaming NSW ] have supported our application for extended trade, and we can further our commitment to showcasing the incredible arts, culture and music the city has to offer.”

Established in 2011 through City of Sydney's Small Bar Legislation, Freda's has quickly carved a name for itself in the city's live music scene. As well as taking part in Vivid Music this year for the fifth time, it has previously hosted gigs for the likes of Winston Surfshirt, Dadirri, Sampology and Crepes.
