MTV Australia has today announced it will screen a special one-off local edition of famous US '90s hip hop music video series, YO! MTV Raps.
Marking just over 30 years ago since its global debut, the series featured a number of big hip hop names including Tupac, NWA, Run DMC and Salt-N-Pepa.
The local event will showcase the likes of REMI, Carmouflage Rose, Flex Mami, Tasman Keith and Okenyo, with triple j's Hau Latukefu to host.
“We’re excited to showcase the immense talent of local hip-hop artists that have exploded across Australia and around the globe," Vice President of MTV Asia Pacific, Simon Bates, said.
"Following MTV Unplugged Melbourne and TRL, YO! is another great addition to the growing list of local programming we are creating to highlight local artists and musicians that connect with young audiences.”
Filmed in front of a live audience, YO! will also include include a round table discussion with some of the confirmed acts regarding the state of hip hop and its culture in Australia.
YO! MTV Raps will premiere on MTV on Friday 17 May at 6pm AEST.
