Returning for its 14th year next month, Stonnington Jazz Fest will shine a light on homegrown talent with its 2019 program.
The 11-day Melbourne event will host cabaret, afro-beat, bebop, spiritual jazz, traditional jazz and more, including special concerts from award-winning pianist Barney McAll and his band, Lance Ferguson’s Menagerie, the Australian Arts Orchestra and so much more.
“This year, we invited artists from across the country to share their sounds, their stories and their take on the genre,” artistic director Chelsea Wilson said.
“As a result, the program boasts a blend of art, music, cabaret, spiritual jazz, afro-beat, bebop, spoken word and trad jazz. Although geographically isolated from the origins of jazz, our local artists have a history of creating thought-provoking, original and truly remarkable interpretations, and this continues to excite and inspire us at the festival.
“We also invite you to be part of the action and ‘Get Involved’. Our interactive series is bigger than ever this year! Paint, sketch, sing, jam, write and dance with us. Network with industry professionals, connect with friends and celebrate our local community. Enjoy the journey and enjoy the destination. Dig.”
The festival will take place at Chapel Off Chapel and various venues throughout Stonnington from 9 – 19 May; check out the full program here.
