Some of Australia’s most prominent and influential Australian artists will feature in a new documentary that dives deep into the country’s hip hop scene.

Described as an “introspective cinematic narrative”, Burn Gently will give viewers an “access all areas” look at Australia’s hip hop scene, featuring interviews with Hilltop Hoods’ Suffa, 360, L-FRESH The LION, Baker Boy, Mirrah, Joelistics, Drapht, REMI, Adrian Eagle and more who document the ins and outs of the industry, its growth, pressures, expectations and hardships.

The new project, which has been in the works for the past year and a half, comes from Melbourne duo Sensible Antixx in partnership with N’fa Jones.

“[In] late 2017 we recognised we were in a position to tell this story,” Sensible Antixx director Antixx said.

“We’ve worked hard at building our network and crafting a narrative that covers both the positive and negative of how hip hop is perceived and explored in this country.

“After being successful in Creative Victoria’s major funding round we were gifted an opportunity not to tell what hip hop IS, but to offer a platform to the greater community discussing how it’s been, where it’s going, and all that’s in between.”

Sensible Antixx’s Kristina Hood added: “The discussions we’ve been having with these artists have been nothing short of surreal.

"There’s no denying hip hop has been rife with complexities in its short history within our country, howeve,r these artists successfully continue to break glass ceilings on a global scale time and time again.

“We’re incredibly grateful and equally excited to be part of celebrating the countries world-class music.”
