Not-for-profit youth organisation Girls Rock! has announced a new 30-day crowdfunding campaign to help bring their first Adelaide rock camp to life.

Providing a safe and empowering space for female, trans and gender-diverse youth aged 10-17, the camp will use music to “inspire confidence, encourage creativity, celebrate individuality and ensure opportunity”.

In order to make that a reality, Girls Rock! is raising $10,000 via the new campaign, while also hosting a major fundraiser gig at new Adelaide venue Lion Arts Factory tomorrow night, featuring local pop favourites Heaps Good Friends, alt-country outfit Dead Roo, indie folk band Hey Harriet, indie rock trio Contract Love and emerging duo Teenage Joa.

“We’re crowdfunding to cover payment for venue hire, catering, expertise, equipment and materials,” co-director Sianne van Abkoude said.

“But we’re also really hoping we’ll be able to provide scholarships for young people who couldn’t otherwise afford to attend.”

The camp will be held during the July school holidays at the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
