After heated public voting via theMusic.com.au, Queensland Music Awards has unveiled the finalists in its People’s Choice categories.
This year’s People's Choice Awards saw fans vote for their favourite festivals and venues, both metro and regional, and the race is now down to just two per category, with the winners unveiled at a sold out ceremony at Royal International Convention Centre at Brisbane Showgrounds next Tuesday, March 19.
Here are the finalists:
Festival of the Year
Big Pineapple Music Festival
Blues on Broadbeach
Regional Venue of the Year
NightQuarter
SolBar
Metro Venue of the Year
The Triffid
The Zoo
Win A Double Pass To The Queensland Music Awards
And here’s what this year’s finalists had to say:
The Triffid
Brett Gibson, Owner
“The Triffid is really pumped to be nominated amongst some of our favourite venues in the country, as a group - we love to go to work every day and provide an environment that creates the best experience for fans of live music. The fact that our fate is in the hands of the people that come through our doors is the best thing about being nominated for this awesome award.”
The Zoo
Pixie Weyland, Owner/Booker
“Live music is life. It's literally the artists' breath that keeps us alive as a venue. It's awards and nominations like this that help keep us moving, motivated and is a nice salute that maybe we are doing something right. We are so grateful to be nominated and to have the opportunity to continue The Zoo legacy.”
NightQuarter
Michelle Christoe, Director
"We are honoured to have made the finals of the People's Choice Awards, particularly because we are currently in the process of moving the venue. We thank everyone for all your votes! It is an awesome recognition of our team and the fantastic musicians and music lovers we have in Queensland! We can’t wait to reopen later this year at our new location!"
Solbar
Melissa O'Bryan, Booker
“We have watched the awards for years, with a lot of friends and favourites getting nominated, so to be recognised alongside them is epic! It sounds cliché, but just getting nominated, is unreal, and then becoming a finalist! Thanks very much to all the people that support us in bringing live original music to the Sunny Coast, and of course QMusic, not just for the awards, but all that they do throughout the year to grow and encourage the art.”
Big Pineapple Music Festival
Mark Pico, Festival Director/Music Curator
“We couldn't believe we won the award against Woodford last year and to make the final again in 2019 is just mind blowing... This category is very special to us because it is voted by actual festivalgoers, so it's a huge honour.”
Blues On Broadbeach
Mark Duckworth, Festival Director
“After so many years of building this fantastic festival it is great to see our fans have voted to ensure it is in the finals for the People's Choice Awards... after all, it’s the music fans who drive the momentum of our event and have contributed to the 171,000 fans that grooved along in 2018!”
The awards ceremony might be sold out, but you still have a chance to party with song of Queensland’s finest, with The Music giving away a double pass to the event.
