Almost one million viewers watched the controversial Leaving Neverland documentary when it screened in Australia this past weekend.

As TV Tonight reports, 424,000 and 314,000 people tuned into the two-part film on Friday and Saturday night respectively.

Leaving Neverland explores the experiences of two men - Wade Robson and James Safechuck - who alleged they were abused by the late singer when they were children.

Since airing in the US earlier this month, a number of radio stations around the world, including Australia's smoothfm, have pulled the late singer's music.

Meanwhile late last week, The Simpsons executive producer James L Brooks announced that a famous 1991 episode which features Jackson has also been pulled from circulation

“It feels clearly like the only choice to make,” Brooks said, confirming the decision was made with creator Matt Groening and long-time showrunner Al Jean.

“The guys I work with — where we spend our lives arguing over jokes — were of one mind on this.

“This was a treasured episode. There are a lot of great memories we have wrapped up in that one, and this certainly doesn’t allow them to remain.”

According to Billboard, Jackson's sales and airplay have declined since the release of Leaving Neverland, however streaming numbers have increased.
