Eight artists across Australia's creative community will be honoured tonight at the Australia Council Awards.
Amongst the recipients includes Not Drowning Waving and My Friend The Chocolate Cake founding member, David Bridie, who will receive the Australia Council Don Banks Music Award (recognising the "achievements of a distinguished artist who has made an outstanding and sustained contribution to music in Australia"), while Boomerang Festival Director Rhoda Roberts will receive the prestigious Ros Bower Award (acknowledging "the achievements of an artist or arts worker who has made an outstanding and sustained contribution to community arts and cultural development").
Meanwhile, Melbourne-based rapper Fablice Manirakiza will be honoured with the Kirk Robson Award which recognises a young person working in community arts and cultural development.
Other names to be honoured at the ceremony in Sydney tonight include Helen Garner, Susan Norrie and Rachael Maza.
“It is wonderful to be able to honour these eight outstanding artists who, each in their own way, reflects Australia’s rich creative talent,” Australia Council CEO Adrian Collette AM said.
“These artists have been nominated by their peers for the extraordinary contribution they have made both in their fields, and to the broader cultural life of the nation.”
