After locking down a run of festival appearances in recent months, US power pop pioneer Van Duren has confirmed Aussie headline dates in celebration of a documentary that offers up his untold story.

The Memphis legend will perform his first-ever dates outside of the US in April around local screenings of Waiting: The Van Duren Story, a film that’s been described as “a love letter to the artist that should have helped define a generation”.

The singer-songwriter was slated to be the next big thing in the ‘70s but faded into obscurity, something The Rubens’ manager Greg Carey and local muso Wade Jackson investigate in their new film after tracking the legend down via Facebook and heading to the US.

Waiting: The Van Duren Story will premiere at the Gold Coast Film Festival on April 8 before screening in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Central Coast, The Gum Ball Festival and Bendigo Autumn Music Festival, all with an accompanying Q&A session with Duren, Carey and Jackson.

Duren will also perform intimate shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Katoomba.
