Courtney Barnett treated a very lucky crowd to a surprise set at the Mona Foma festival in Launceston last night, ahead of her scheduled Sunday night appearance.
The news that Barnett would be appearing in the 'mystery slot' was released via the festival's Instagram account mid-afternoon Saturday, with punters then lining up to secure their place for the small theatre performance at the Inveresk festival precinct.
Roughly 160 people were allowed in to the show, which ran for around 50 minutes and saw Barnett perform solo.

"It’s a real pleasure to be here, I’ve always wanted to play this festival," said Barnett to the crowd a few songs in. "Thanks for coming out tonight."
Among the stripped back setlist were tracks Avant Gardener, Need A Little Time, City Looks Pretty, Nameless, Faceless and Depreston, with Barnett closing the set with Sunday Roast from her 2018 album, Tell Me How You Really Feel, a track she "actually started writing it in high school."
A cover of Gillian Welch's 2001 track Everything Is Free was also a set highlight (see a snippet below).
