At this point, it’s clear Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis knows his way around a mighty fine melody, today following up international hit Be Alright with a song that’s just as likely to become an instant hit.
The local artist took to social media yesterday to tease the release of 7 Minutes, giving it some serious props along the way.
“It’s my favourite song I’ve ever written and recorded,” he teased, and with its release today we can see why.
The upbeat anthem was conceived in London two years ago, with Lewis noting:
“I’d just had an argument with this girl I was seeing at the time. All of a sudden the line, 'Is it too late to turn around/I’m already halfway out of town,' came into my head while I was sitting in an Uber about halfway from her place to mine.
“I sing about driving past all the places we knew, where we met and drinking wine under her bedroom window. All things that happened. It’s a song that’s real to me and means a lot.”
7 Minutes is the second single lifted from Lewis’ highly-anticipated debut album and was produced by Nick Atkinson and Edd Holloway, who also lent their skills to Waves and Be Alright.
After wrapping a massive Australian tour recently, Lewis will head to the US and Canada in March for a run of headline shows.
