That a song called Bittersweet can still manage to sound exultant is testament to Dave Faulkner’s songwriting skills and the Gurus ability to use melody alongside a rocking rhythm section to craft something genuinely unique. "I’d have to say that Eskimo Joe's song Black Fingernails, Red Wine is quintessential Aussie rock. From the minute Kav sings it’s so uniquely identifiable, not only because of his voice, but also the production and melodically. I remember when this song came out, it was just everywhere. So big, and as a young, starting-out artist, it was so inspiring that guys who went to the same high school that I did could write such an incredible song. Really this song is the sound of an Aussie summer - similar to GANGgajang and Icehouse."
