The Australia Council for the Arts has announced over $6 million of investment into the Australian arts sector today in the latest grants round.

From 1,353 applicants, 183 projects have been chosen to be funded with a further 271 identified as being of "high merit and deserving support but could not be funded within the scope of the budget". "This demonstrates an opportunity to further invest in Australia's creative potential," Executive Director of Grants and Engagement Frank Panucci said.

Among the artists successful in this round in the Music funding area, are indie rockers Gang Of Youths ($38,000) after a huge 2018 for a US headline tour, Bamboos' Lance Ferguson ($36,375), Sylvie Nehill ($28,384), Paul Mac ($38,866) singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin ($40,899) for international touring, Odette ($12,000) for international marketing, Northeast Party House ($28,950) for new album, RVG ($25,420) for second album, Music NT ($100,000) for 2019 activities, Contemporary Music Victoria ($75,000) for 2019 program and a whole lot more.

Panucci said the Council was impressed with the calibre of applicants in this round of funding. "We continue to receive more high quality applications than we are currently able to support, which highlights the incredible opportunity that exists to invest in Australia’s rich creative talent and the development of our nation,” he said.

“The Australia Council will continue to advocate for increased investment in the arts throughout 2019 and beyond, recognising the crucial role of the arts in contributing to Australia’s rapidly growing creative economy, as well as the social and cultural success of our nation.

"Our research shows the arts help promote empathy and socially cohesive communities, in addition to enriching the lives of all who experience them."
