Best known as The Captain from ‘70s pop duo Captain & Tennille, US musician Daryl Dragon has passed away aged 76.

As TMZ reports, the singer and pianist’s publicist confirmed he died on Wednesday morning of renal failure in Arizona while in hospice care.

Dragon’s former wife and musical partner Toni Tennille said he was “a brilliant musician with many friends who loved him greatly".

"I was at my most creative in my life, when I was with him," she said.

The duo were famed for megahits such as Love Will Keep Us Together, Do That To Me One More Time, Muskrat Love and more.
