The “once in a generation” weather event that has unleashed torrential rain across Victoria, with severe flood and lightning warnings in place for much of the State, has forced the cancellation of Taste of Melbourne, the popular food festival held in MCG’s Yarra Park which was due to take place this weekend.
The food fest, which showcases the best of the city’s thriving resultant, bar and food scene, was called off to ensure the safety of exhibitors, staff and guests, on the advice of emergency services. Ticket holders are advised that organisers will be contacting them in the coming days to arrange refunds.
Melbourne’s wild weather has been labelled “uncharted territory” by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, due to the unusual combination of high heat and humidity with low-pressure systems. More than a month’s rain is due to fall across Melbourne over the weekend, with parts of the city already experiencing flooding at the time of publication.
More details for ticketholders can be found on the Taste of Melbourne website.
