Multicultural Arts Victoria is presenting the fifth year of Mapping Melbourne, a 17-day series of multi-disciplinary events celebrating independent Asian artists and our unique Australasian culture.
Among the many highlights are Japanese rapper Kojoe and celebrated jazz pianist/beatmaker Aaron Chouli, who've newly joined forces as Kaiju Hip Hop Jazz Project. The pair opened the festival this week with a launch party that also combined performance art, dance and live music from dancer Yumi Umiumare, art collective Club Ate and Haiku Hands.
Their second performance is at Jazz Lab, 2 Dec with support from celebrated beatmaker Amin Payne' s quartet.
Finally, on 9 Dec Kaiju Hip Hop Jazz Project play Horse Bazaar as part of Pieces, featuring Miyama McQueen-Tokita & Elf Tranzporter and DJ sets from DJ PonPon, DJ Kyohei, DJ Snuc and MC Naki.
