Brisbane rockers Dune Rats are putting down their beer-filled shoes to team up with locals and save an iconic bowlo, and they need your help.
Coorparoo Bowls Club has become a staple of the Brisbane landscape offering regular gigs that are all ages, free or both. It’s been a golden beacon of hope for many local acts looking to break into the live music game.
Now the beloved bowlo is under threat with developments proposed that will turn the club's current pristine greens into 80 units of aged care living. The heritage-listed clubhouse is up for relocation, effectively removing an established family-friendly live music venue from the community.
Locals are not having it at all organising a “Save Our Green Space” fundraising day this Sunday featuring live performances from surf punk outfit Concrete Surfers and bluegrass trio The Gailee Three. There will also be a classic Aussie sausage sizzle and speeches from committee members.
Making sure the message is heard across Australia is Dunies guitarist BC Michaels.
“It’s important to keep the Coorparoo Bowls Club as an actual community centre for the public to enjoy amongst all of these shit highrises that are popping up everywhere,” said Michaels.
“There’s a complete oversupply of this bullshit already and Coorparoo is quickly becoming a big slab of concrete.”
So head down to Coorporoo Bowls Club this Sunday, have a bevvo and support Brisbane live music venues.
