If there's anything better than one Melbourne Cup win, it's two.

For the second straight year, Aussie music mogul Michael Gudinski has had a hand in the winning Melbourne Cup horse, as co-owner of Rekindling.

As the Geelong Advertiser noted this week, the Mushroom Group founder has shares in the thoroughbred alongside owner John Ingham, Quiksilver founder Alan Green and construction industry figures Vin Sammartino and Phil Mehrten.

Gudinski will now share in the $3.6 million prize, as well as the $900,000 for second place, as he also co-owns Johannes Vermeer, which finished in second place.

"I sometimes get referred to as the Godfather of Australian Music. Well the Williams’ are the Gods of the racetrack and I bow down to them," Gudinski said in a statement given to The Music.

"It is inspiring and humbling to be a part of the A-Team with two back to back Melbourne Cup winners. I can’t quite put my finger on the music equivalent to two Melbourne Cup wins and a 2017 quinella but I’m sure it will come to me!"

It comes after Gudinski also shared in the prize of last year's winning horse, Almandin.
