Seasoned promoter and punk-rock champion Glenn Stewart — aka The Drunk Promoter — is calling time on the role following his upcoming tours for Supersuckers and Guttermouth in November and December.
While he he says the shows will "most likely" be his last under The Drunk Promoter name and admits that he "still might do an international tour or two throughout 2018", Stewart advised in a Facebook statement that he's currently "in the process of starting a new venture with some friends, and feel that I want to focus most of my energy on the new project".
"My new role will focus a lot more on Australian bands and working with venues — and even relocating back to Queensland eventually," he revealed.
Over his time as a promoter, Stewart — who also works as an agent for Premier Artists — has been responsible for touring some of the biggest names in punk, including GBH, Leftover Crack, Clowns, Agent Orange, SNFU, The Bennies, CJ Ramone and more.
It hasn't always been a smooth ride, but his contribution to the national touring scene is undeniable, and none too shabby given The Drunk Promoter, according to Stewart, "started as a joke and ended up keeping me busy for a lot longer than I thought".
His post thanked the broad community of artists, punters, presenting partners and other people who helped make his tours successful and, if it's any solace, he's not planning on entirely abandoning his Facebook, joking, "In 2018 this page will be turned into me complaining about beer prices".
As if you'd expect anything different.
If you'd like to help make his last shows parties to remember, Supersuckers play Adelaide, Melbourne, Ballarat, Hobart, Brisbane, Sydney and Geelong from 3 to 11 November; Guttermouth have dates on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide between 14 and 20 December.
