WA rockers Segue Safari are just as stoked on the 2018 Falls Downtown line-up as we are, and that was before they had a shot at joining the massive event.
The festival launched its Foster A Band initiative last week, which sees a handful of local acts battle it out for a slot alongside Flume, Fleet Foxes, Run The Jewels and more at the January event.
A different media outlet is championing each artist and we’ve backed Segue Safari, who as well as having a knack for producing killer lo-fi, alt-pop tunes, have damn fine taste in music.
They’ve listed their five must-see Falls Downtown acts below, and if you want to see them join the line-up (you do), head over to the Falls Festival website and cast your vote before the end of October.
Jeremy Segal (Frontman)
Methyl Ethel
One of my favourite Perth bands ever! Jake Webb knows exactly how to take you to feels-town via dream pop production and emotive vocal delivery.
Julia Jacklin
A top-notch Australian songwriter. Her cover of Someday by The Strokes is great too. I love how she strays from Julian Casablancas' sarcastic delivery and reveals how sad the song really is.
Daryl Braithwaite
Horses aside, the production on his tracks is actually super intricate and cool. '80s drum machines layered with epic live drums, chorus-drenched guitars, and warm melodic bass lines. Also, he sometimes sounds like Sting.
DD Dumbo
DD Dumbo also has super intricate and cool production and sometimes sounds like Sting, but is nothing like Daryl Braithwaite. I saw him and his band a few months ago. It was quirky, playful, and a great time.
Daniel Zeljko (Guitar & Synth)
Fleet Foxes
Their latest album is a huge feat in terms of production and songwriting. Its grandiose arrangements and unusual song structures make for a worthy departure from their previous albums, making one of this year's best along the way.
