Lauded Canadian country-pop monarch Shania Twain has claimed the #1 spot on debut on this week's ARIA albums chart with her fifth studio album — and first in 15 years, Now.
The multiple Grammy winner and best-selling female country music artist ever pipped her one-time potential successor, Miley Cyrus, to the post, with the former Hannah Montana still earning an impressive #2 debut for her new album, Younger Now.
Also making top-10 debuts are Rick Price & Jack Jones (California Dreaming, #7) and Demi Lovato (Tell Me You Love Me, #8) while the late, legendary Tom Petty receives a re-entry for he and The Heartbreakers' Greatest Hits at #9 in the wake of his passing. (Their Anthology: Through The Years also makes a lower-half debut on the ladder at #51, while Twain's Greatest Hits also re-enters the list at #53.)
Michael Jackson's 11th posthumous album — new compilation Scream — has also made a strong entry, landing at #14 in its first week, with Benny Anderson's Piano rounding out the top-20 newcomers at #18.
Also notable among this week's new faces are local lads Winston Surfshirt (Sponge Cake, #24) and punk vets Propagandhi (Victory Lap, #26), while there are also decent debut results ahoy for Johnny Mathis (Johnny Mathis Sings The Great New American Songbook, #34), Pearl Jam (Let's Play Two, #45), Wolf Alice (Visions Of A Life, #54), Celtic Thunder (Inspirational, #61) and Primus (The Desaturating Seven, #97).
As for singles, the anticipated #1 resurgence for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' Same Love (ft. Mary Lambert) didn't quite come to pass — it's re-entered at #4, with Post Malone's Rockstar (ft. 21 Savage) remaining unmoved at the top.
Petty also makes a couple of appearances on the list, the highest being the #59 debut for Free Fallin', along with a re-entry for The Heartbreakers' I Won't Back Down at #78.
Otherwise, there's little to write home about for new entries; Pink earns the week's highest debut at #27 with Beautiful Trauma, with Post Malone her nearest contender at #56 at Fall Apart.
