The grand opening of new Perth live music venue The Sewing Room has been a long time coming, but the wait will be worth it once doors officially open tonight.
The basement venue is below an early 1900s building on Wolf Lane that was once the Pierucci fashion hub, and the space that was once the garment sewing room now houses world-class live music production.
Although a lot of time and effort went into transforming the space into a live music venue (which features a sound system modelled on theatres like Sydney Opera House alongside in-house backline), the basement itself has been kept in much the same condition as it originally was.
“It’s a beautiful old space with a nice vibe that we wanted to capture,” booker Mark Neal told The Music.
“The Sewing Room’s basement space acknowledges its history while looking firmly to the future of music.”
If the location and vibe alone weren’t unique enough, the 320 capacity venue also has a nightclub licence that will allow it to open from 6pm – 5am everything Thursday, Friday, and Saturday - its one of the first issued in almost 30 years.
Sticking to their tagline of “music for everyone”, the line-ups on offer will be “diverse and interesting” in a “welcoming and inclusive venue” that Neal hopes will become a significant part of WA music culture.
The Sewing Room opens tonight with sets from Almost Soy, NDORSE, Hank and more before The Caballeros, Black Stone From The Sun, Helta Skelta, Voyager, Osaka Punch, WAMFest and more take setup in the coming weeks.
