Irreverent Brisbane outfit Bugs are steaming towards the finish line for 2017 in a big way, with a smorgasbord of announcements set to keep their fans happy over the next few months.
First and foremost, the band have just unveiled infectious new single Neighbourhood, the first song from their upcoming six-track EP, due for release this November.
"This song is about feeling trapped by strangers and the unknown of what lurks across the fence," frontman Connor Brooker said in a statement. "As a kid I grew up in a regional surf town where we didn't lock the doors, a man walking down the street alone wasn't a predator to fear for children, you didn't wear a bike helmet.
"I'm not necessarily sure if my attitude has changed with maturity or if the world is a bit more twisted now — people don't seem as open as they were, our society is afraid of sharing. Giving something up voluntarily is seen as vulnerability so people don't take the chance."
The boys are set to celebrate the EP's arrival with a five-date tour in November and December too, kicking off with a headline show at home in Brisbane on Friday 10 November before setting off for a trio of shows supporting Young Lions in Melbourne, Hobart and Sydney. They'll round out the tour on Friday 8 December at the Sol Bar, in Brooker's old stomping ground of the Sunshine Coast.
The band have swiftly become live favourites in Brisbane, renowned for their charismatic energy and clever songwriting that has set their audiences into carefree frenzies at their own shows as well as support slots for the likes of Modern Baseball, PUP, Twin Peaks and local pals Hockey Dad, Good Boy, Bleeding Knees Club and Spiderbait.
Bugs released their debut EP, Growing Up, in May last year, and with Neighbourhoods representing the start of the next chapter for the band, it's a safe bet we'll be hearing stacks more from the Qld group as we roll through into 2018 and beyond, and we're all the richer for it.
Keep an ear out for Bugs' sophomore EP in a couple of months' time, and see theGuide for details on their upcoming tour dates.
