Queensland's Nightlife Music has made history by becoming the first music-focused company to be named in the AFR Top 50 Most Innovative Companies list.
The list, which covers Australia and New Zealand, is judged and compiled by consultancy group Inventium, with companies being assessed on the merits of two recent innovations as well as their more general culture of innovation within the organisation.
For Nightlife — named at #26 on the list — recognition came for their lauded in-venue request app, crowdDJ, as well as for providing businesses with a means of playing their own custom Spotify music from a commercially licensed player.
"It’s wonderful for our team’s efforts to be recognised in this way," Nightlife Music chief executive David O’Rourke said in a statement.
"Music is something the whole world loves and we’re excited to provide a way for people to enjoy it in a business environment without artists and labels missing out on their share."
The company will now turn their attention to expanding their reach globally, aided by a recent partnership with electronics organisation AOPEN.
The 2017 AFR Top 50 Most Innovative Companies list was topped by M&C Saatchi (through its innovation design consultancy Tricky Jigsaw), with Planet Innovation, Custom Innovation Co, Leo Burnett Sydney and Aurecon rounding out the top five.
