45 people who attended this past weekend's Defqon.1 dance festival in Sydney were charged by police with drug offences.

A statement issued by NSW police reported that of the 45 charges at the Penrith-based event, eight punters were charged with drug supply and 37 with drug possession.

One of the charges included a 22-year-old male who was allegedly in possession of 396 capsules containing MDMA and amphetamine. He appeared at Parramatta Bail Court yesterday.

Another male was also allegedly caught with 200 pills and a woman who allegedly had 87 pills, both believed to be MDMA.

Despite the multiple charges, the number of offences is down on previous years. Last year's festival resulted in 77 arrests and in 2015, 46 charges were handed out

The 2015 Defqon.1 festival also resulted in the tragic death of 26-year-old man.
