As reported by Newscorp yesterday, the Gold Coast is expected to play host to Australia's next big two-day festival, SandTunes.

Approval was given by the local council yesterday for promoters TEG Dainty, US partner AEG and Cross Promotions to Coolangatta Beach for the festival, which is expected to kick off in December next year.

An off-shoot of the US' Hangout Festival, the council is expecting the event to bring around 35,000 visitors to the area during the duration of the festival, as well as a predicted $14m to be injected into the local economy.

It is reported that the five-year deal is includes an exclusivity clause, meaning the festival cannot be taken to any other location in Australia.

Plans are reportedly underway for the promotion of the festival.
