Canadian Metal Icons Anvil Announce 40th Anniversary Australian Tour Dates

Long-serving heavy metal outfit Anvil are coming up to their 40th anniversary, and the band have just announced that Australia are included in their celebratory tour plans.

In the lead-up to their impending 17th studio album, Pounding The Pavement (due in 2018), the band will blitz their way across five headline dates around the country this November, taking in shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth during the run.

The band's tumultuous career is the stuff of legend, the band being cited as an influence on fellow flagbearers such as Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth, among others. They endured an extended period of obscurity from the late 1980s until the late 2000s, when they were the subject of an acclaimed documentary about their determination in the face of their reduced renown, 2009's Anvil: The Story Of Anvil.

The Sacha Gervasi-directed film brought the band back into the spotlight, before they went on to play a string of high-profile shows — including at Download Festival — and reassert themselves as celebrated force among metal aficionados around the world.

Their most recent album, Anvil Is Anvil (2016) was the first to feature bassist Chris Robinson, who joins founding members Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner on the upcoming sojourn.

A ticket presale will be held from 9am local time this Wednesday, 6 September, through Metropolis Touring, with general public tickets going on sale from 9am local time on Friday 8 September.
