Social media went into meltdown yesterday following the highly-anticipated Falls Festival line-up announcement and while names like Flume, Liam Gallagher and The Kooks are all reasons to get excited, many people were stoked to see Aussie legend Daryl Braithwaite on the bill.
Many considered it a surprise (and welcome) inclusion for the NYE festival and speaking to The Music, the 68-year-old says he was just as shocked when he got the call-up.
"It's very endearing because it took me by surprise, maybe, a month back when they contacted us… I went to my agent and said, 'How good is this?'"
Though Falls Festival will be flooded with younger punters, Braithwaite says after performing at Perth's Beer Fest this past weekend, he has seen that particular demographic's response to his music first-hand.
"It was about 3000 people and they were mainly in their '20s… it was quite staggering and it's strange because I've been doing it for 40-odd years and it’s still as enjoyable now, if not more, than when I started out.
"I can't figure it out. All I know is that I love it. I love performing, I love the people, doesn’t matter what age.
"But when you do see young guys wanting to shake hands and then they sing The Horses and it goes ballistic and you think, ‘My God, what an effect music has on people’."
Falls Festival will take place in Lorne, Marion Bay, Byron Bay and Fremantle; for more details, click on theGuide.
