Fans of all things musically progressive, experimental, eclectic and underground, rejoice: cult-favourite event Unsound is returning to Adelaide in 2017 for a fifth year.

For the first time, the event will be held independently of its former home at the Adelaide Festival — at which the 'festival within a festival' was hosted between 2013 and 2016 — and, fittingly, will feature a newly expanded spread of attractions when it makes its way Down Under in November.

In addition to the musical offerings (the line-up for which will be announced in the near future), this year's Unsound Adelaide event will include a talks program presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and UniSA, as well as a major sound-art installation at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.

Last year's line-up featured local favourites Tralala Blip as well as internationals such as Babyfather, RP Boo, Kangding Ray & Barry Burns, Jlin with Florence To & Avril Stormy Unger and more, so — especially given that the 2017 event returns under the purview of former Adelaide Festival Artistic Director David Sefton and Unsound co-founder and Artistic Director Mat Schultz — you can trust that this year will follow suit in bringing a diversity of boundary-pushers and sonic trailblazers to venues such as Thebarton Theatre in a few months' time.

"The artistic success and massive popularity of Unsound was a personal highlight of my four Adelaide Festivals," Sefton said in a statement. "I am therefore delighted to be able to bring Unsound back as a standalone, fully fledged festival in its own right. It really is back by popular demand.

"Unsound is a major new addition to the Australian arts landscape and unlike anything currently on offer. The line-up is truly amazing — I can’t wait to share the full thing very soon! I know the Unsound audience in Australia is going to love it."

Unsound Adelaide 2017 will be held from 16-19 November. Subscribers to the mailing list will receive first look-in at exclusive announcements, pre-sale tickets and more.
