A number of iconic Sydney bars have signed on to hold enrolment drives for the upcoming marriage equality postal vote.
As Concrete Playground reports, the movement is inspired by Sydney's Heaps Gay organisation, who will host the 'Equality Weekender' from today through to Sunday.
Venues including The Lansdowne, Mary's, The Unicorn, Vic On The Park, World Bar, The Imperial and Stonewall will each host a 'rego party', with enrolment forms at the ready.
"There is an old rule to never discuss politics in a pub, and while some folk in Canberra want to make this issue purely political, we recognise that it is squarely about equality, respect and love," Lansdowne, Mary's and The Unicorn co-owner, Jake Smyth, said.
"We are throwing a party to all to register to vote, to have your voice heard, to speak out for the family members, the friends, the teenagers whose voice has been ignored for too long. Vote yes to marriage equality!"
Voters must be enrolled by 24 August to be eligible to receive the postal ballot; head to the website for more details.
