Triple J's Like A Version segment has cemented itself as one of Australia's most popular live showcases and now it's about to go global.
As Billboard reports, a best-of compilation series is set to be released in North America via MGM through a partnership with ABC Music on 22 September.
The CD will feature some of the best Like A Version performances from big Aussie names like Flume, Tame Impala, DMA'S and Meg Mac, as well as huge international artists such as Mark Ronson and Mumford & Sons.
MGM founder Michael Chase told Billboard that they plan to release a compilation album each year in line with the Australian release, in an attempt to "get some attention on the Australian artists".
"We've so many great acts in Australia," Chase said.
"It's just been the tyranny of distance and the expense (that has held artists back). That's part of why we put an office here in the US, to start bridging that gap.
"This project is another part of the jigsaw puzzle that can help brand Australian music in the market and give it more of a voice and also promote the fact that Australia has this great radio station Triple J that has birthed so much great music over the years."
In a statement given to The Music today, Triple J's Richard Kingsmill said, "Releasing Like A Version in the US will not just continue to raise the profile of the segment, but also hopefully raise awareness of the great Australian acts that have featured over the years and will into the future".
