UK punk singer Peter Bywaters has claimed he was denied entry into the US after mocking President Donald Trump in a YouTube video.
Loudwire have reported that Bywaters, the frontman in UK punk band Peter & The Test Tube Babies, was set to perform with the group at the Punk Invasion Festival in California but was met by authorities when he landed in San Francisco, resulting in the singer being put on a flight back to the UK soon after.
The controversy comes after the band's Presidential Tour in 2016, where Bywaters can be seen dressed as Trump when performing. Authorities allegedly had this footage on hand when Bywaters was detained.
Today, Entertainment Weekly has reported that Bywaters was actually turned away due to an incorrect visa, rather than the Trump impersonation.
In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Customs and Border Protection spokesman Jaime Ruiz said that "The claim that he was refused entry to the United States because he mocked the president of the United States, that is absolutely not true.”
“That is false. The reason he was denied entry was because he came with the wrong visa.”
The band's original Facebook post with the claim can be read below; they are yet to release further a statement in response to Customs and Border Protection.
