Ex-Skyhooks guitarist and longtime radio host Red Symons is reportedly "as sharp as ever" as he continues his recovery following a recent fall that left him with "a significant injury to his brain", according to a colleague.

As the ABC reports, Mornings host Jon Faine paid a visit to the convalescing Symons to check in on the Breakfast presenter, who has been off-air since the incident but is said to be "doing well".

"He felt a bit unsteady, stopped, put his hand out to hold onto the building as he wobbled, and fell backwards because it was a hill," Faine explained of the fall.

"Because he fell backwards, he hit the back of his head very hard on the pavement."

Despite the seriousness of Symons' injury, Faine says the former Red Faces judge "hasn't lost any function".

The Mornings host says his co-worker is eager to return to his post "as soon as he can", although he has been advised he take whatever time is necessary to ensure a full recovery.
