Beloved Brisbane duo DZ Deathrays are mere weeks away from scooting off overseas for a tour of the UK and bits of Europe but before they fly off, their faithful droves will be able to treat themselves to some eagerly awaited new sounds.
The band let their fans know of the incoming goods on Facebook late this morning, saying simply, "NEXT WEEK. NEW MUSIC."
So, at this stage, it's anyone's guess what shape that'll actually take, but honestly those are the most exciting four words we've read since seeing that "free milk, barely expired" sign behind an IGA a few weeks back.
The last we properly heard from the celebrated two-piece was their heartily received second full-length, Black Rat, back in 2014, although back in March this year, they quietly pushed out a possible sliver from their upcoming third album in a video for some limited-edition merch.
Time will tell as to whether next week's release follows up on that early teaser or takes us somewhere else entirely, but whatever it is, we are here for it.
Before they set off, locals will be able to catch them at next month's Shakafest on the Gold Coast, with Grinspoon, Tired Lion, Ivan Ooze and more, as well as Jindabyne's Snowtunes festival on 2 September. So, maybe punters will be lucky enough to hear whatever's coming next week in person at either of those events before we're forced to wait till their much-anticipated return home later this year.
If you're interested in heading along to either event, see theGuide for details.
