Punters who have marked down beloved Brisbane performer Mallrat in their schedules for Splendour In The Grass will be in for an extra-value treat come Saturday afternoon at the Mix Up Stage.
The Music has learnt that Sydney up-and-comer Oh Boy will be making an appearance during the Uninvited scribe's set to not only perform their recent collaborative earworm Rush Hour but previous team-up cut Bunny Island (2016) for good measure.
Evidently, the creative relationship between Mallrat and Oh Boy is a fruitful one, as evidenced by the infectious excellence of both Rush Hour — which has earned pretty broad rave reviews since it first reared its head at the end of last month — and its predecessor effort, which was a co-write with Donatachi.
Of course, it's probably not hurt by the fact that the pair are good mates offstage too, a fact reflected in Oh Boy's excited statement to The Music about his upcoming guest spot at the fest.
"Not only do we like to write music together but we also really like to perform it," he said. "I'm so excited to be joining one of my best pals on stage for a couple of songs at Splendour In The Grass!"
If you're not headed to the festival, you don't have to miss out entirely — Oh Boy is performing at Byron Bay's Beach Hotel tomorrow night, 20 July, as part of the Falcona Byron Bay Blowout event, and we'd be well surprised if Mallrat doesn't make a pop-up appearance during his set there in kind.
Also on the bill for tomorrow night's shindig are Tom Tilley, Mimi, Sosueme DJs, I OH YOU DJs, Pilerats DJs, Beyond The Valley DJs and Falcona DJs. Should be a blast; check out the Facebook event page for more details.
Splendour In The Grass kicks off proper from this Friday, 21 July. See the festival's website for more information.
