Life on the road for a globe-trotting Aussie muso is often accompanied by long drives, no sleep and terrible dietary choices, but for one Melbourne artist, it’s led to a unique and potentially career-changing experience.
Revered bassist Arun Roberts, who plays in his own band Dirt Hand when not accompanying Ben Salter and others, was on tour in the US with rising star Gabriella Cohen back in April when he caught the eye of a Gucci talent scout.
As Executive Style reports, Roberts made quite an impression during a sold out show at LA’s Fonda Theatre. Gucci then tracked him down for their ‘Cruise’ show, which was held in Florence in May.
"There were five other musicians who were also part of the show and around 117 models showcasing various looks so I was one small part in the big picture," Roberts said.
"I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd go on tour and end up in a Gucci runway show. Lucky for me it didn't involve walking down an actual runway and posing. It was more about standing still and walking a short distance. I could handle that."
He was made to feel 'like an important guest’ by Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, but thankfully Roberts isn’t considering a complete career shift.
"It definitely got me thinking I'd love to do this, but music is obviously my main love.”
Other musicians involved in the shoot included Klaxons’ James Righton, Savages’ Jehnny Beth and more.
