Music and arts fans in Brisbane are utterly spoiled for choice this September.
No sooner will BIGSOUND have wrapped its upsized 2017 offerings on 8 September than the Brisbane Festival will kick off the following night, with a jam-packed program of musical and other artistic offerings to please local punters.
Alongside previously announced drawcard events such as London Grammar, Angus & Julia Stone, The Aints Play The Saints, The Preatures and An Evening With Tex, Don & Charlie, Brisbane Festival will welcome revered songstress Megan Washington & Queensland Symphony Orchestra and local legends Regurgitator returning to their acclaimed show paying tribute to The Velvet Underground & Nico — this time at iconic venue The Tivoli, celebrating its centenary this year.
They'll be flanked by the likes of High Tension, UV boi, Ali Barter, Ngaiire and Thelma Plum, plus Trevor Ashley's tribute to Shirley Bassey, Diamonds Are For Trevor, Korean disco band Sultan Of The Disco, and compilation events such as Jazz On Sunday, Little Creatures LIVE, Young Hearts Run Free and more.
It's not just live music fans that are catered for at the wide-ranging Bris Fest, however, with the wider spread including Theatre, Comedy & Cabaret, Dance, Film, Circus, Visual Art/Installations, and Children & Family events.
All said and done, the event will welcome five world and 11 Australian premieres among over 490 ticketed and free events across the city.
"Brisbane Festival bursts across our wonderful city each September, dazzling us with music, dance, theatre, opera, circus, fireworks and vibrant festival hubs bringing communities together," state Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said in a statement.
"The Queensland government is proud to support this festival which showcases us to the world while bringing the world to our urban capital so audiences can experience our talented local artists, new work and significant international productions."
Brisbane Festival runs from 9-30 September. Get around the full smorgasbord of events and attractions at the event's website.
