A former celebrity bodyguard has fronted a WA court this week after being charged with unlicensed possession of dangerous goods last year.
As ABC reports, Wayne Schmarr was caught with explosives during a drug raid in the Kalgoorlie suburb of Lamington last June.
The 47-year-old previously worked as a bodyguard for the likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Usher, as well as served with the Australia Defence Force.
Appearing at Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court yesterday, the court heard that Schmarr found nearly two kilograms of explosives placed in bags at the front of his friend's home where he was staying, before moving them into a shed on the property.
Police reportedly raided the house a short time later in a drug search where they discovered the explosives; three power gel "sausages", two glass containers of ammonium nitrate, fusing and non-electric detonators.
Defence lawyer Brendon Slattery claimed Schmarr did not report the explosives to police as he had only been at the property for an hour before the raid occurred.
Slattery has further claimed a conviction could impact Schmarr's ability to regain his security license, which he lost following a confrontation at Gold Bar nightclub in Kalgoorlie.
However, Senior Constable Banyard says they do not consider the charge a "trivial offence".
"These explosives should have been in the hands of police or a mine site," Banyard said.
Schmarr will be sentenced this Friday.
